knitting, aromatherapy, herbs and life in general

August 2012

Please be gentle with me… it’s my first time!

Okay this bit makes me nervous, I love drawing but always thought I was rubbish, my usual thing of I can copy okay but nothing original. This isn’t original in that I copied from a book, intending it as just a practice piece, but it’s the first drawing I’ve done in many years and I’m pleased with it.

Happy times with Hubby

So one reason the blog was late was spending time with the wonderful man who has been there for me forever it seems. We spent a day at RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate and he very patiently gave me some lessons on his wonderful camera, goodness knows I need to learn how to take better pictures if I am to get this blog looking as I would like. Any way here are a few things I took, mostly in the Alpine house which is full of miniature plants. Some pictures are hubbies and I will credit him if I can remember which are his. Suppose I should learn how to copyright them as well.

I was so intent on the flower I never saw the ant

and a few of Hubby’s shots

Almost forgot

Almost forgot to show off the lovely socks I knotted for my amazing hubby. I love the colours in this yarn.

Tuesday post haha

Okay so it’s Wednesday but I can plead technical error, couldn’t find the lead to connect the camera to the computer and a post with no pictures is not going to work. So my faerie has move on a little, various reasons, the hair takes an age to do and with hubby on holiday I’ve been involved with other fun. But here she is so far.

The pen is for scale

Here are her wings on their own,

These took an age to hand sew the wire onto the edges, especially since I chose too thick a wire to start with and had to unpick a whole wing!

Her first face was rather basic and a bit wobbly on the mouth so a little make over was needed and I’m happier with the face now.

I’ve also been playing with another new friend, please meet Melina

When she first came much of her face was bright pink, this picture doesn’t really show you the brightness

So this what you see in the first picture is my first attempt at new make up for her.

I also got her a new hair do, those that know me know my hair changes frequently so I thought it only fair Melina had an alternative hairdo too.

and with a new hair ornament

for a friend

Here’s a random picture taken by my talented Hubby, it’s inspired by a close friend, she knows who she is 🙂

to blog or not to blog!

So as ever I started something and then got myself busy with other things. So discipline is needed I think, Tuesday is going to be blog day. I have hesitated to put things up here because they aren’t finished or perfect and I need to let go of both of those things. I have rather a butterfly brain and flit from one project to another so there could be some random things popping up but I promise to try and show a projects “Time Line”.

I love art dolls but don’t have the skill set to do some of the wonderful things I see on the Internet. Then I discovered Fiona McDonald and her knitted dolls and fell in love. Normally knitted dolls are very nursery in style but these dolls have much more potential for being finer in style. So here is my current project, a faerie and it’s no where near completed!

Body, neck and head are knitted as one piece and then stuffed. The face is done by “needle sculpting” which looks pretty rough at this stage but once I add eyes and hair it will look much better.

No not a very small thong! This becomes and ear.

Add arms and here we are so far

I promise myself I will be back next Tuesday 🙂
